Strong writing skills are essential for success in any field. Whether you’re working on essays, research papers, or presentations, writing support can assist you through the process.

At UW-Madison, The Writing Center supports undergraduate and graduate students across all majors in developing stronger writing skills and completing academic projects with confidence. 

What Does the Writing Center Offer?

In an individual appointment, you’ll receive personalized support at any stage of the writing process, from choosing a topic to revising and polishing your final draft.

Instructors can help with thesis development, organization, grammar, citations, and editing strategies while building the skills you need to become a more confident, independent writer.

Workshops provide flexible support for writers at any stage.

Covering topics such as job application materials, presentations, grant writing, personal statements, and academic research, these free sessions are offered in virtual, in-person, hybrid, and self-paced formats to help you build skills on your schedule.

Writing groups provide a supportive community students to build consistent writing habits throughout the academic year.

Led by experienced instructors, groups are available in both registered formats with regular attendance and flexible drop-in options, offering dedicated time, structure, and encouragement for writers at any stage.
