Learning Support at UW–Madison is run through on-campus learning centers. Each one has its own specialization.

Learning Centers

Athletics Learning Center

Tutoring services are available to all student-athletes located in Camp Randall and the Kohl Center.

Tutors meet with student-athletes weekly to provide assistance with content comprehension, exam review, sample problems, and study skills.

Located on the second floor of the Learning Commons in Grainger Hall (2210M/N), the Business Study Cooperative (BSC) provides drop-in and one-on-on tutoring for several core business courses. Students can sign-up via Starfish for one-on-one tutoring.

Center for Academic Excellence (L&S)

The Center for Academic Excellence provides academic assistance and holistic advising to CAE students. CAE Academic Mentoring assigns academic mentors to students via an application process and mentors are available across many subjects.

Chemistry Learning Center

The Chemistry Learning Center provides small-group, collaborative learning environments for students enrolled in general and organic chemistry courses.

An application process is required to receive tutoring through the Chemistry Learning Center.

Greater University Tutoring Service

Greater University Tutoring Service (GUTS) offers tutoring at multiple locations on campus, providing small‑group and drop‑in options for high‑enrollment science and social science courses. It also hosts study skill appointments and workshops on topics like organization, note taking, and more.

Gross Learning Center (CAI)

The Phill and Liz Gross Learning Center (GLC) is located on the second floor of Morgridge Hall and offers drop-in tutoring for courses across College of Computing & Artificial Intelligence (CAI) majors.

The center also provides Study Pods, statistics practice sessions, and other academic support services.

Math Learning Center

Located in Van Vleck Hall (B224), the Math Learning Center (MLC) offers drop-in tutoring for all precalculus and calculus level courses and peer office hours for select upper-level courses.

The Proof Table, located in B227, offers a study space and drop-in support for students in proof-based courses.

McBurney Disability Resource Center: Study and Learning Skills Specialists (SLSS)

Located at 702 W Johnson Street, the SLSS program provides specialized tutoring and study skills training to eligible students who are registered with the McBurney Disability Resource Center and referred by their Access Consultant.

Nursing Academic Support

Nursing Academic Support, located in Signe Scott Cooper Hall (Room 1215), supports admitted Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students through drop-in office hours and individual and small-group tutoring via Support by Request. Students can also participate in Badger Scholars, an academic and social group, and Nurse kNowledge Network (N3), a peer-led study groups for first-year students.

Physics Learning Center

Located at 2338 Chamberlin Hall, the Physics Learning Center provides a supportive learning community for studying physics and opportunities to find study partners.

Students work together in small-group learning team sessions to practice problem solving and discuss key concepts.

Undergraduate Learning Center

Located on the third floor of Wendt Commons, the Undergraduate Learning Center (ULC) provides tutoring and academic support programs for all undergraduates through drop-in tutoring in over 50 engineering, math, chemistry, and physics courses. Drop-in tutoring is available for all students, while other services may be limited to engineering students.
